Haryana Sees 55,001 NMMS Applications; Panipat Tops, Charkhi Dadri Last

55,001 students of Haryana have registered for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship test. Panipat district tops and Charkhi-Dadri stands at the bottom. The examination will be conducted on November 30.

Haryana students show keenness for education: The enthusiasm for education among Class 8 students studying in government schools in Haryana is evident. As many as 55,001 students across the State have submitted online applications for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMS).

The home district of State Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, Panipat, has topped the list with 4,232 students applying, followed by Sirsa (4,064), Ambala (3,789), and Hisar (3,560). In the fifth position was Gurugram with 3,401 applications.

In this list, the Charkhi Dadri district was behind with 1,077 students only. Statistics depict that awareness related to education is rising gradually amongst the children in Haryana.

Scholarship Exam on November 30

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Exam will be held on November 30 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The admit card will be uploaded by the Haryana Board of School Education, Bhiwani Board on its official website 10 days prior to the exam.

It would only be applicable for students studying in government schools whose family income is not more than ₹3.30 lakh annually. The selected students will be granted a total scholarship of ₹48,000 for classes 9 to 12, or an assistance amount of ₹12,000 per year.

How is the scheme helping?

This scheme was started in 2008 by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The aim of it is to support talented students of economically weaker sections for further studies.

According to Sandeep Sindhu, mathematics expert and NMMS in-charge for Hisar district, the 55,001 applications reveal an inclination towards education both in rural and urban areas. He asserted, “This scheme is proving to be a boon for the economically weaker sections as it is helping many students continue their studies.”
