Delhi Again Turns into Gas Chamber! AQI Touches 400+, ‘Toxic’ Air—Is There Any Relief in Sight?

New Delhi, 09th November 2025 – The air in the capital has become “unbreathable.” As per reports, on Sunday, New Delhi’s Air Quality Index was 399. This standard comes in the “severe” category. In some parts of New Delhi, its standard was above 400. In these conditions, people cannot go outdoors.

A report presented by CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) reveals that Delhi stands as the second most polluted city in the country. The average value of AQI recorded in 24 hours stood at 361.

Areas which are highly polluted

  • Wazirpur – 420
  • Burari – 418
  • Vivek Vihar – 411

The level in all these areas remains “severe.” As for areas in the NCR, there’s no improvement in the situation. In Noida, the AQI was recorded to be 354. In Greater Noida, 336. In Ghaziabad, 339. According to experts, breathing in these conditions is similar to “smoking 9 to 10 cigarettes per day.”

Air Quality Deteriorates after Diwali

The condition of the air in Delhi is gradually turning toxic due to firecrackers. The CPCB remains apprehensive about there being no hope for improvement in the coming 15 days. The wind speed now remains between 3-5 km per hour. As a result, there are no chances of dispersal. The probability of rain in November remains 1-2 percent.

Residents who are disturbed by fog in the mornings or evenings

As per IMD (Indian Meteorological Department), tomorrow will see clear weather. But there will be heavy fog in both mornings and evenings. It has become so foggy that one cannot see anything while driving.

Minimum Temperature: 12-16 degrees Celsius
Maximum Temperature: 26-28 degrees Celsius

Nights are expected to become colder because of wind blows originating from the Himalayas. Relief does not appear to be imminent.

No respite even from the cold – what to do, Delhiites?

With the intensification of winters in North India, people are caught between two calamities – smog and freezing. The government has launched GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan), but its effects are almost negligible.

Doctors’ advice:

  • Go out less
  • Protect children and the elderly from pollution
  • Wear a mask
  • Use an air purifier or natural plants

Explanation: “The only prayer which people make is: ‘When will we get clean air?’”
